APT Research is Hiring a Cost Estimator Near Huntsville, AL

Position Description Summary

APT Research is hiring a full-time Cost Estimator in Huntsville, Al to develop independent government cost estimates (IGCEs) to support the Missile Defense Agency. This position is a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop cost estimates using Engineering Build-up, Analogy, Extrapolation of Actual Costs, and Parametric methodologies
  • Develop Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCEs) to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA)
    • Collect data/requirements from program Point of Contact (POC)
    • Defining the scope and schedule of the estimate
    • Adjusting data for inflation and other data normalization
    • Creating the estimate using appropriate cost estimating methodology based on available data
    • Defining Ground Rules and Assumptions
    • Cost estimate documentation such as data sources, estimate methodologies, ground rules, assumptions, and program description
    • Performing crosschecks
  • Perform data analysis using CO$TAT and Microsoft Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and Access tools, for example:
    • Normalizing cost data for analysis
    • Calculating descriptive statistics
    • Calculating correlation coefficients
    • Fitting statistical distributions to data
    • Performing linear regression and log-linear regression
    • Performing statistical analysis to identify outliers

Required Experience/Education:

  • A Bachelors Degree in a related field
  • 3-5 years of cost estimator experience
  • Experience in the government/engineering industry

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • A secret level clearance is required

  • Office environment
  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers

Travel Requirements:

  • Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <15%

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk
  • Ability to lift >15 lbs.

Other Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement
  • Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others
